History

Michael Kennedy McIntyre & Associates was founded in 1985.  Mr. McIntyre saw that people who had been convicted of misdemeanors and felonies needed attorneys who were devoted exclusively to the field of postconviction representation. Mr. McIntyre and his team possess expertise that helps them evaluate postconviction options available to those convicted of both state and federal crimes.

Michael Kennedy McIntyre, Esq.

Mr. McIntyre graduated in 1975 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1979. Mr. McIntyre worked as an Assistant Federal Defender with the Federal Defender Program, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia from 1980 to 1984. Since 1985, Mr. McIntyre has been in private practice and has been practicing postconviction criminal defense in Atlanta and the state of Georgia for over thirty years. Mr. McIntyre is a member of the State Bar of Georgia. He practices exclusively in the field of postconviction representation.

Elizabeth Vila Rogan, Esq.

Ms. Rogan graduated with Honors from the University of Chicago in 1981, and received her law degree from the Columbia University School of Law in 1985. She began her career representing indigent defendants at the Legal Aid Society in New York City, before relocating to Atlanta to work on behalf of those facing the death penalty. She has worked on capital litigation at the Georgia Resource Center, the Georgia Capital Defender, and the Capital Defense Unit of the Office of the Chief Public Defender for the State of Connecticut, as well as in private practice. For many years, Ms. Rogan owned and operated The Rogan Law Firm, providing counsel to clients in criminal and civil matters in both state and federal court throughout Georgia. Ms. Rogan also served as a Superior Court Magistrate Judge in Fulton County.
Ms. Rogan is a member of the State Bars of Georgia, New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia. She joined the firm in 2017.

    Jessica A. Lexmond, Esq.

    Ms. Lexmond graduated cum laude in 2005 from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. She received her Juris Doctor from Emory University School of Law in 2008, and has always been interested in practicing as a criminal defense appellate attorney in Georgia. While attending Emory University School of Law, Ms. Lexmond interned at McIntyre & Associates, as well as various agencies throughout Atlanta, including the Federal Defender Program, Inc. and the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender, in order to learn about the process of Georgia appeals, and the work performed by Georgia appellate attorneys.  Ms. Lexmond is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.  She has been working with Michael Kennedy McIntyre & Associates since 2007, and has been an associate attorney since 2008. She practices exclusively in the field of postconviction representation.

    Susan Casey, Esq.

    Ms. Casey graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1995. She holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Psychology from Emory University (1984), and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1991). Before attending law school, Ms. Casey worked in the Human Rights Program at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a staff attorney with the Federal Defender Program, Inc., in Chicago, Illinois from 1995 to 2000, and a staff attorney in the capital habeas corpus unit of the Federal Defender Program, Inc., in Atlanta from 2000 to 2007. Ms. Casey is a member of the bar in Georgia and Illinois. She practices exclusively in the field of postconviction representation, including Georgia petitions for writ of habeas corpus. Ms. Casey joined the firm in 2007.

    Marla Blackmon - Parole Specialist

    Ms. Marla J. Blackmon graduated from Gordon Junior College with an Associate of Arts degree.  She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tift College. Ms. Blackmon started her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections. After five years with the Georgia Department of Corrections, she accepted a position with the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles. During Ms. Blackmon’s twenty-four years at the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, she held the positions of Parole Officer, Hearing Examiner/Criminal Investigator, and Assistant Director of Guidelines/Appeals Officer. Ms. Blackmon retired from the Parole Board in April 2012 and joined the Firm in May 2012.

     
     

     

    Erica Sessions - Office Manager

    Ms. Sessions graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. She has been working with Michael Kennedy McIntyre & Associates since 2001. Ms. Sessions currently serves as the firm's office manager and is in charge of consultations with prospective clients and their families. She is also responsible for all accounts payable and receivable.
